SIDS InformationSIDS is a serious issue for any new parent to consider as it usually strikes in the first 6 months of life. There have been various studies to try to figure out what causes it, though to a large extent this still remains a mystery. The biggest issue effecting this seems to be the sleeping position of the baby. Whether the baby is in a family bed or sleeping a crib, the position of the baby (lying face down, or on their back) is the biggest indicator of safety.Recent studies also concluded that a pacifier can help reduce the rate of SIDS as well, and the studies suggest that the pacifier helps to keep the baby from falling into a deep sleep, from which the don't wake when in distress. Articles on the subject also conclude that nursing babies in a family bed get he same benefit because they also usually wake regularly to nurse. |
