The Moby WrapThe Moby Wrap (approx. $34.95) is the least expensive carrier that I tried, and it is an excellent value. The Moby Wrap is basically an 18 foot, 24 inch-wide 100% cotton knit fabric strip that tapers at both ends for easy tying and to prevent the knot from becoming too bulky. The length is not as daunting as it sounds. This carrier, as with the other two wrap-style carriers I evaluated, is basically wrapped around your waist, over your shoulders, back through the waistband, and around your back, creating a cozy little pocket in which you can carry your baby front or rear facing, or nursing. Once you figure out how to tie the carrier, it is quick and easy to wear your baby in the Moby Wrap. The Moby Wrap was an excellent choice when my baby was smaller, but as he got bigger, he started trying to wriggle out of it. For very wriggly children, you need to either tighten the carrier more, or look for one with wider fabric (the Baby Bundler might be an option). The Moby Wrap comes with illustrated instructions on how to wrap the carrier, and how to use it in the Cradle Hold, the Hug Hold (front facing in) and the Joey Hold (front facing out). It is notable that the Moby Wrap Company is involved in several philanthropic ventures related to baby wearing: recently the Moby Wrap company was selected under a bonding/attachment grant to work in the California prison system, teaching baby wearing techniques to young mothers in the prison system, to help them bond with their babies.
