Manchester United kicked off their 2024 pre-season campaign with a 1-0 defeat to home side Rosenborg.

United should have done better
Erik ten Hag selected a starting line-up with a mix of youngsters, with five of the starting eleven coming from the first-team – Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Jonny Evans, Casemiro, Mason Mount and Marcus Rashford – all of whom played 45 minutes before being substituted at half-time.
Defender Harry Maguire is recovering from an injury at Carrington, while Andre Onana, Victor Lindelof, Amad Diallo and Jadon Sancho did not travel with the squad and are building their fitness.
Even though they had five first-team players in the starting line-up, they were unable to raise the team’s standard. Overall, the team performed significantly below standard.

”So if you can’t win, don’t lose the game. But of course, performance is more important, and the performance really seemed below par.”
”The performance is below our standards. This is not the standard for top football. We don’t look fit at the moment. They (Rosenborg) are fitter, but we are Man United. We have to perform better.”
Vitek stands out the most
The 20-year-old Czech Republic goalkeeper returned from Accrington Stanley a few months ago after a loan spell expired.
In the latest game against Rosenborg, he showed outstanding form. He made a total of 7 saves in this match. In the first half alone, he made at least 4 important saves, helping the team not concede a goal. In the second half, he made another 2 important saves.
Without him, Ten Hag’s United would have lost more.
